“Conversation is a competitive activity where the one taking a breath is known as the Listener.”
Hap Cooper – Prospect Street Consulting
Taking on difficult or crucial conversations is at the very core of our leadership journeys. As we have listened to the amazing array of stories that people have shared regarding their leadership journeys all of them have reflected the results of some very serious, challenging conversations. Sometimes those conversations were with others and sometimes they were between the story teller and her or his self.
Without wanting to put too fine a point on it we believe these conversations are powerful, explicit examples of leadership.
We find that “know thyself” is sound advice as a staring place. Self is all that we have control of in these situations and the more we know about ourselves the more likely we are going to be our ‘best selves’ and get our desired outcomes.
